Let's all stop and take a moment to appreciate the fact that we live in a time when you can turn on your cell phone and look at a live close-up satellite picture of the sun in all its insanely huge glory. It is hard to imagining how big the sun is, but for perspective, keep in mind that the solar flares you see spouting off the surface of the sun can be more than 10 times the size of the the earth!
Hey, its the sun, live, from space, on your computer. What could be cooler than that?
Pictures are recorded every 6 hours (4 times a day). This time lapse sequence is the month of January 2008. We first started recording from the sun after watching the amazing short movie "Look at the Sun" on the Wolphin DVD (
check it out).
